I have been watching your livestreams and I was wondering, how you always stay so positive and cheerful? I am having some trouble with that lately.

There were some livestreams I did when going though my latest bout of depression. We discussed mental health and such quie a bit. I’m not sure if it was recorded, however.
With that said, I currenly maintain such cheerfulness thanks to Celexa (anti-depressant) and tend to not livestream when depressed or going through bouts of anxiety. It really killed my creative drive and could have very well killed me if I didn’t seek help (it interuppted my life in a big bad way).

Overall, I keep positive (aside from meds - b/c, really, they only do part of the work) by considering the brilliant things in life. Good friends, family, paint, cooking vegan dishes that are new, working out, hanging out with cats..so many cats..all the cats. Lol.

Comedy helps. Lots of it. Big fan of stuff from the UK and assorted stand-up comedians.
The lovely gent I’m sorta kinda yeah yeah seeing brightens my day the hell up. But so do other friends. Had a really difficult week and turned to loved ones to kick me out of a funk.

We attended a drag show, cheering on one of my best friends as he danced and lip synced to a competition win. I rounded up pals to paint their faces (as cats!) — luckily most were on board. It took some beer to convince that lovely gentleman that this was in fact a brilliant idea. Other friends resisted and will be attacked with makeup when they least suspect it (FOR SCIENCE!). Spending time away from home for a couple days, and going to a concert with two of my besties. <- keeping well busy busy busy.

In other words, support helps when you feel like you’re lonely, sad, down, etc etc etc. Happiness cannot be dependent on one sort of thing. It gets difficult when you’re walking around feeling like a failure often (this is how I often feel, thanks to this year’s events). In all reality, I find I’m too hard on myself. I’m unsure of how you’re feeling or if you’re able to relate to this at all. My advice is limited to my own experiences and those of close friends who I’ve learned to understand thanks to all of our “talking about our feelings”.

Feel free to come on back and ask whatever if you think I can be of any help. I’m entirely unqualified, simply being a crazy artist, but at least you can be sure I’ve been through such issues myself. <3

I was recently reading various information about writing mission statements. Do you have a personal mission statement you’ve created for yourself (or do you have a mission statement for any of your business ventures)?

I don’t have a mission statement. I think mine changes often, so setting it in stone is odd for me. I have a basic artist statement, but only b/c some jobs/publications require it.
Generally, my mission is to brighten someone’s day, let them forget their troubles, and to create weird things.
Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about exposing more of myself in my work. Expressing sexuality, love, hate, fears and insecurities, etc.
I like the ideas of juxtaposing cuteness with vulgarity.

I’m not sure if Acrylicana will carry such work or if I’m rebranding completely. Acrylicana is such a part of me that I think I should allow her to grow up (for a while I was considering killing her off or setting her free — I’ve been going through a lot of change this year).

Was talking with my other half, told him about the livestream & that you paint Munny’s using acrylic paint. He said “of course she would, she’s called Acrylicana. haha”. So how did you actually come up with the name Acrylicana?

It’s a portmanteau of acrylic and americana. I like the idea of plastic or paint being iconic.

What do you do for prep when you paint the Munny dolls? Do you sand them down, put a primer on, or nothing? And do you use acrylics? I want to try them out myself, so I thought I’d ask before buying them. :)

I do nothing to them. I have primer spray at the ready, but have never bothered with it. I use acrylics, various kinds,.

Ive watched your videos but couldn’t find the paints you mentioned. The staff didn’t help at all so i ended up leaving with liquitex soft body arcylics and liquitex matte medium. will this work? also i bought a clear acrylic coating spray. do i need this?

Are you painting canvas? I love liquitex for it :)
Are you painting shoes? If so, Liquitex makes a textile medium too.
I usually spray all of my work. For paintings on canvas, I like things to be shiny, so I use a Kamar varnish spray. For shoes, I give them a quick spray with acrylic sealer after heat setting (this only applies to using textile paints).

I’m thinking of having some stickers made, but I do the design in RGB so people on my dA can see it. Is it okay that take that same file and convert it to CMYK for printing? Have you ever done that, or worked straight from CMYK?

I’ve converted files before from RGB to CMYK — usually it requires some colour adjustment so I can get them as close to what they were on my monitor (I do small print tests before sending them off).

Have you ever printed any products in the RGB color format? And if so how did that turn out?

I have! All of my shop prints are RGB, b/c I’m using an epson wide format printer, so it works pretty well.
I think CMYK works best for professional printing (if that’s what they require…usually for screen-printing, etc).
